Accutane Side Effects
On June 26, 2009 Accutane (Isotretinoin) was recalled in part due to a possible link to serious Accutane side effects including reports of:
It has long been known of the connection of Accutane and birth defects and possible suicides, but new evidence has come to light that the makers of Accutane, Roche Holding AG, has known about the possible link of Accutane and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) since 1984 and has failed to warn its users of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and other serious side effects.
Accutane and generic brands Amnesteem, Claravis and Soltret are also suspected in causing IBD, Crohn's Diease & Ulcerative Colitis (UC) as well. Further according to many experts, Accutane users or any patient with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are also at an increased risk of colon cancer in the future. In Feb. 2010 the FDA warned of reports of Accutane associated with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Syndrome (TENS) See: Accutane and SJS

FDA Announces Accutane Recall
Hoffman La Roche notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it was voluntarily recalling / withdrawing Accutane after a "reevaluation" of its product lines showed it faced serious challenges from generic competitors, company officials said in a statement." In addition, Roche has been faced with high costs from personal-injury lawsuits that the company continues to defend vigorously," according to the statement.
Roche continues to deny that the recall of Accutane had anything to do with the string of losses in the product liability lawsuits filed against them due to patients developing Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis and other Inflammatory Bowel Diseases after using the acne medication Accutane.
